Well thats a can of worms! Glad you opened it. This is probably the most misunderstood area of music production, always has been and always will be. Bonham played the way he did because that was the technology that existed then. Kenny Arinoff plays the way he does cause he is doing it now. Its not the fault of the click track, you've heard a million tracks played to click and would never know it. The only time you hear technology is when it is applied to someone who can't do something and is supported by the technology. Don't blame the tool, blame the user.

I had to laugh at t-pain when he said recently about his using auto-tune that "now everybody will be using it." Right. like you've heard a recording in the last 10 years that wasn't tuned. Use a tool for what is is meant for but don't use a tool to hide you inabilities.

Isn't it a bit of an unscientific sample putting Britney Spears against Stairway to Heaven? I mean one is a legendary rock anthem with legends on every instrument, the other is a manufactured pop thing with drum loops designed to not get in the way of the diva. You can't really make any credible case juxtaposing John Bonham against a computer.

Comparing Metallica to Zepplin is a little better, but then you saw that things deviated in both instances. It'd be interesting to see how Britney stacks up to the Bee Gees or something else comparable from a different era. Then you might have something worth talking about.

How does a Bob Dylan track compare in tempo to Bright Eyes or AC/DC to Jet or the Strokes to the Jam?
